Jim Shore provides a detailed drawing of a new piece to a group of master sculptors, handpicked and trained by Jim over the course of many years. Prototypes and proofs are sent to Jim for revision and approval, and usually after several amendments, molds are produced from these original sculptures for casting using cold-cast resin. Each piece is then painstakingly hand-painted and finished by artists using folk art techniques developed by Jim. Again, Jim approves all work to ensure they are faithful representations of the original art. The attention to detail and his involvement in the entire process ensure products retain the look and feel of real wood and have a quality and level of detail that is unique in the industry.

Each piece must conform to Disney's own strict criteria according to factors ranging from colour to shape and expression to posture and symbolism, with numerous copyrights to uphold and protect.
